This site is characterized by exposure of a set of early Cretaceous fluvial and lacustrine sedimentary strata, comprising purple-red medium-thick layered sandstone-massive mudstoneinterbedding, purple-red conglomerate and purple-red massive coarse conglomerate. Fossil layers are primarily distributed in mudstone and sandstone, with ten outcrops of dinosaur footprint fossils within 2km2. The exposed area of No.1 is nearly 600m2, including the upper and lower footprint layers. Among them, there are 16 sets of 183 footprints on the middle fine-grained sandstone in the lower layer, and 2 sets of 8 footprints on the upper sandy mudstone layer, with 6.5m-thick intervening sand and mudstone layers; No.2 site reveals 80m2 of area, 9 groups of 61 footprints, distributed on the medium-fine sandstone layer; No. 4 with 30m2, produced 3 groups of 18 footprints on the medium-fine sandstone layer; No.6 site reveals an area of about 100m2, producing 47 footprints in 8 groups of 3 categories. There are 9 species of ancient vertebrate footprints, namely brontosaurus, pterosaur, aquatic bird, Kalier and many unnamed theropod dinosaurs. The pterosaur footprint consists of 24 consecutive footprints, the longest and well-preserved footprint on record. The sauropod footprint (Brontosaurus footprint) is between 25 and 90cm wide and is the best-preserved footprint fossil known in China. Numerous parallel ornithopod footprints are indicative of the social behavior of dinosaurs. A sauropod footprint that is running fast is discovered
here, which is rare in the world record.
