化石产出地层岩性为浅红色砂砾岩、细砂岩、泥岩等，属晚中新世晚期地层。产出和政貘（Tapirus hezhengensis）、低冠中华马（Sinohippus robustus）等化石。和政貘（T. hezhengensis）是我国最早、最原始的貘属种，填补了貘科进化的一个空白。
The fossil-producing strata are light red sandy conglomerate, fine sandstone, mudstone, etc., in the late Late Miocene, primarily producing Tapirus hezhengensis, Sinohippus robustus and so on. T. hezhengensis is the earliest and most primitive Tapirus species in China, filling a gap in the evolution of Tapiridae.
