At around 2 pm on July 2nd, Zhang, a resident of Huangci Village in Linxia UGGp, discovered a creature suspected of being a national second-class protected animal, the wild "giant salamander", while taking a walk by the Yellow River. In order to protect it from harm, he quickly called the police.

After receiving the alarm, police officers from the Forest Police Brigade of Yongjing County Public Security Bureau immediately rushed to the scene. After confirmation, the creature was a wild adult giant salamander, belonging to the national second level protected animal. It is about 1 meter long, 18 centimeters wide, and weighs about 6 kilograms. The head is flat, the tail is like a catfish, the whole body is gray black, and the limbs are short and small like human hands. Its large size is rare. The police immediately contacted the fishery department to conduct another inspection. The giant salamander showed no signs of injury, was healthy, and crawling normally. However, due to the decrease in water level, it was stranded and later it was released in the discovered water area.

It is known that wild giant salamanders generally live in mountain streams, rivers, and lakes and require extremely high water quality. The appearance of that in Linxia UGGp indicates that the local ecological environment is getting better and better.

In recent years, Linxia UGGp has strengthened the ecological construction, increased efforts in controlling pollution sources in the Yellow River and improved the level of water quality. Emphasis is placed on ecosystem protection and restoration, gradually restoring the natural ecological functions of the Yellow River and providing a good habitat environment for rare species such as wild giant salamanders.
